CANCER
Providing support for the families of cancer patients.
A Safe Place to Be: The Caldwell Family Foundation has supported the ground breaking new Hope Lodge in Utah. There are currently 31 Hope Lodges across the country serving the lodging needs of adult cancer patients. The Salt Lake Hope Lodge will be the first to serve the Intermountain West.
The Hope Lodge provides a nurturing home away from home where guests can retreat to private rooms or connect with others. The Lodge will also house the American Cancer Society, so it will be replete with resources and information about cancer and how best to fight and cope with the disease.
Savannah's Song: The Caldwell Family Foundation is incredibly proud to partner with this local group focused on raising money to support St Jude Children's Research Hospital. Our inspiration is Savannah Evans of Sandy, Utah. Savannah was diagnosed with brain cancer at age seven, and following surgery in Utah was not given a hopeful prognosis.
St. Jude accepted her as a patient and with their ground breaking treatment she is now a beautiful teenager. Her cancer is still active and she continues to receive care from St. Jude. Savannah's song was the #2 private event fundraiser in the United States in 2013. The Caldwell Family Foundation is honored to help drive this event to be even better! Some facts and figures about St. Jude:
No Place Like St. Jude
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing and food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent since it opened in 1962.
- St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent in the next decade. We won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
- St. Jude freely shares the breakthroughs we make, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
- Because the majority of St. Jude funding comes from individual contributors, St. Jude has the freedom to focus on what matters most - saving kids regardless of their financial situation.
- St. Jude was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, who believed that "No child should die in the dawn of life."
